This winter has been one of the most frigid and toughest in the past few years. Yet, despite the sub-zero temperatures, you can easily have radiant, energized skin by simply updating your beauty routine and adding some must-have beauty products.

Today, I want to share a few tips and tricks that have helped me face this cold weather like a true champion, and have made me feel and look a decade younger!

Maintain a moderate temperature at home

Cold temperatures aren’t the only reason you get scaly skin – it’s also caused by extreme heat and low humidity. If your home is too hot, the result won’t only be rough skin, but it’ll also result in the drying of mucous membranes, that would otherwise help protect you from infections and common colds. Experts suggest the ideal temperature for your home is 69 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit or 20 to 21 degrees Celsius.

Consider a humidifier for your home

Humidifiers sold at home department stores also help regulate the temperature and are a great option to balance the atmosphere at home. A simple trick is to put wet towels on top of the radiators. When the towels start to heat up, vapor comes out, which helps improve the conditions and helps maintain the energy in your skin.

Change your regular facial soap to a softer, more delicate option

During winter, I stop using soap and switch to cream cleansers or wet towelettes to remove my makeup every evening. Every time I shower, I use Olay Ultra Moisture Body Wash which gently moisturizes my skin with a soap-free formula and also make sure that the water isn’t too hot, which prevents skin from retaining moisture and removes vital oils that help lock in moisture. Don't shower or take baths for more than 15 minutes and try to add coconut milk and oatmeal flakes to your bath for an extra moisturizing treatment. As soon as I get out of the shower, I apply almond oil to my entire body to nourish my skin. It works wonders!

Don't drink or smoke excessively -- if possible, quit all together!

These two habits, combined with extreme cold temperatures, cause the skin to dehydrate and become red and blotchy. Smoking increases the production of free radicals that only make the dermis and epidermis tired and thinner. So, if you want healthy, energized skin, cut back on these two activities!

Incorporate Vitamin A and Vitamin C rich foods in your diet.

This will bring a natural glow to your skin. Add green legumes like kale or spinach, vegetables like pumpkins or carrots, red berries, and citrus fruits like grapefruit and tangerines. Vitamin C is also available in tablets. I usually take one 1,000mg tablet twice a day to support my immune system. Plus, it gives me an even skin tone!

Drink a lot of water

Make it a habit to drink a minimum of eight glasses of water every day! I usually add a splash of lime juice for a fresh taste. I also love hot green tea, which is rich in anti-oxidants that boost my energy levels and slow down the aging process. A cup of jasmine tea is also a soothing and relaxing treat that warms my body and soul.

Don't forget to use sunblock

No matter the season, sun rays can damage your skin! They cause skin to burn and age prematurely. Apply sunblock before going outside and reapply often when practicing outdoor winter sports such as skiing or ice-skating. An SPF of 25 is the minimum I recommend -- better safe than sorry! And last but not least, the most important thing to do.
